Can L-Arginine increase your risk of heart attack even if you have not already had a heart attack?
Filed Under heart attacks | Comments Off
retrotiki asked:
I’ve read that if you have had a heart attack, taking L-Arginine supplements will increase your chances of having and dying from another heart attack. But what about people who have not yet had a heart attack, but have the precursors of a heart attack, such as high cholesterol, hardening of the arteries, high blood pressure, etc.? Does supplementing with L-Arginine increase their risk also?
To answer Scottsdalehigh64’s question, I’ve read on several websites that L-Arginine supplementation helps with circulation problems, which I think I have. Also, as you mentioned, I do eat well, exercise, etc.

Stem Cell Researchers Discover New Breakthrough That Can Repair Heart Damage After a Heart Attack (animal Research)
Filed Under heart attacks | Comments Off
M. Howard asked:
Stem cells have the promise to treat numerous medical problems from Parkinson’s disease, multiple sclerosis, cancer, and severe burns to Alzheimer’s disease. Now researchers have identified another promising potential use for stem cells-heart disease which is responsible for four out of every ten deaths in the US each year. Bioethical concerns have been raised numerous times about the use of stem cells which are sometimes derived from embryos. In the case of this current research this problem has been avoided with the use of bone marrow stem cells from the same animal who has had the heart disease. The bone marrow is full of stem cells which are sufficiently undifferentiated to permit them to mature into many different types of tissues-including heart muscle.
Heart attacks kill cells in the heart muscle. Medical research scientists have sought to repair the heart muscle itself after a patient experiences a heart attack. The Weil Institute of Critical Care Medicine, located in Rancho Mirage, California has a very exciting treatment in the research phase which involved the use of bone marrow stem cells. The essence of the discovery is that by using stem cells obtained from the bone marrow and getting them into the heart muscle they can begin to replace the damaged heart muscles. The stem cells can replace and repopulate the dead cells and change dead tissues into working heart cells.
Scientists produced new, beating heart cells using stem cells obtained from the bone marrow donated from rats. The stem cells were injected into the bloodstream and found their way to the damaged heart tissue where they repaired the damage and measurably improved heart function.

Post-operative Recovery in Heart Attack Patients
Filed Under heart attacks | Comments Off
Frank Silva asked:
The general notion that a heart attack survivor needs to remember is that the operation was successful and if he takes care of himself more, the heart will heal nicely by itself. Once all of the post-operative tests have been done and the doctor has deemed the patient well on his way to recovery, he will most likely not require further treatment and life can begin for him again. Restricting activities could inhibit real recovery, particularly on the psychological level. After operation, some men could think that if exertion in any way will bring them back in the emergency room. The challenge now becomes dealing with the anxiety and fear which plague men who have had heart surgery.
Life After a Heart Operation
A post operative heart attack survivor may return to his job; start playing bowling again and simply enjoy the activities he enjoyed in the past, without the excess. Keeping in mind all the precautions that the doctor told him, he may list the activities he wants to return to and start engaging in them one at a time.
There are some things that a heart surgery patient definitely needs to avoid, such as smoking and binge eating. A list of the exercises that will improve circulation must be followed. Spending 30 minutes a day leisurely swimming or walking around the park is a good start to keep that heart rate up. His family and friends could show most of their support by eating sodium-free, fat-free and cholesterol-free dishes with him.
Heart attack survivors may have sex again, after the mandatory 6 weeks to 2 months of rest. If the doctor gives the go signal, post operation heart surgery patients who experience libido problems could take medication to give them back the healthy intimacy that they have always enjoyed with their partners.
After the heart operation, a man could be dealing with a lot of shock, so it’s normal to feel hesitant about doing even the most menial activities. However, the stress brought about by inactivity and fear could invite more heart trouble. Keeping optimism high and stress low is the key to fully recovering from a heart attack.

Hyper Tension, Stroke, Heart Attack, kidney Problems

E.Aartheeswari asked:
Hyper Tension
One out of ten people now a days suffer hyper tension or High Blood Pressure. Blood pressure is a silent killer. If unchecked it will lead to heart attack, stroke and kidney failure.
Proven remedies: If a man starts taking pills for Hyper tension he has to continue till last. But herbal remedies will give permanent cure.
How to diagnise hyper tension?
Wrong diagnosis will certainly create unnecessary tension in the minds of patients that will in turn cause heart attack, so a physician should be very careful when he measures the patients’ Blood pressure.Normally three readings of Blood pressure are taken every two months once and average is calculated. If it exceeds the permissible level of 120 then the doctor can start treatment for hyper tension.
Measure your own way:
Patients can measure their own blood pressure themselves. Feel your pulse by puttting your left middle, index and ring fingers under your right wrist.Count the number of vibrations per thirtyseconds using a stop clock or table time piece. Calculate the number of vibrations,(heart beats) per minute. If it is close to 78 (plus or minus ) then it it normal. Other wise serious. Start treatment
Wheatgrass juice if taken in the morning in the empty stomach everyday will work wonders in reducing Hyper tension. Wheatgrass juice also produces fresh blood in our body. So it is good for anemics. It keeps us energetic all day long.
Wheatgrass juice is also good for allergies. Allergies caused by food can be cured by wheatgrass juice. Patients suffering blood cancer also can be cured if in the initial stages given wheat grass juice.
Another proven remedy for hypertension is garlic. Garlic juice will if taken in the empty stomach, will immediately reduce highblood pressure. It simply dissolves the unwanted fats. When these homely herbal medicines are handy for major health complications why should you resort to costly allopathic drugs which are maximum chemicals?

How much do you suppose an emergency room visit for a heart attack should cost?

Joy asked:
I’m just curious to hear what you think. I’m no doctor of course, but how much do you think a standard emergency room procedure for a heart attack should cost. Like how much the doctor and attendants should be paid for such a service? Or whether or not they should receive a standard pay.
Well I was kind of getting to the bottom line with this question. Inquiring about how much specifically one believes doctor’s should charge for these services. Insurance companies and medicare aside.

Is It A Heart Attack? Signs And Symptoms
Filed Under heart attacks | Comments Off
Jim Kapowski asked:
While you may be aware of the most common signs of heart attack, there are some variances between men and women. In addition, there are also less obvious, but just as import symptoms of which you need to be aware.
The most common symptom of a heart attack for both men and women is persistent chest pain or pressure that does not go away when you sit or rest. If this is experienced, immediate emergency help is required. Even if it is not a heart attack, this could be a symptom of heart disease or other serious problems.
Other symptoms of a heart attack include pain that radiates through the shoulders, back, arms, or jaw. Less intense chest pain accompanied by shortness of breath, dizziness, or nausea should also be taken seriously. These could be signs of a heart attack or something else, but is better to find out immediately.
Women may experience other symptoms not normally associated with a heart attack until recently. Women are more likely to experience the “milder” warning signs such as shortness of breath, dizziness, anxiety, fatigue, and cold sweats. Women may also experience similar signs days or weeks prior to an actual attack. If you are experiencing any of these symptoms, make an appointment with your doctor to be monitored for heart disease.
Adults of all ages can be affected by heart disease, although many people still consider it to be something that only older adults need to be concerned with. Certain risk factors add to heart disease, including tobacco use, high blood pressure, diabetes, and high cholesterol. Some of these risk factors can be lowered through proper care and exercise. Seek help to eliminate tobacco use, add an exercise program to your daily routine, and change dietary habits to lower cholesterol. If you have diabetes, follow your doctor’s recommendations on taking proper care of yourself and monitor your blood sugar levels on a regular basis.
Lifestyle changes can be difficult, but many resources exist to help you make these changes. Your doctor will have plenty of information on all the major risk factors. You can also find additional information from organizations such as the American Medical Association.
If you find yourself in a situation where you are experiencing the signs of heart attack or warning signs of heart disease, be sure to describe accurately all your symptoms. Some people try to appear “tough” and minimize their symptoms. Others may feel that they are being a bother or overreacting to the symptoms, particularly if they seem mild. However, if your caretakers do not have an accurate picture of your symptoms, they may not be able to diagnose your condition effectively.
This is particularly true of early warning signs and symptoms. It’s much better to address heart disease as early as possible rather than finding yourself needing an emergency quadruple bypass. Of course, genetics play a role, but this is even more of a reason to monitor your health closely and any potential warning signs.
In general, the healthier a lifestyle you can maintain, the better off you are, for both coronary and general health. Be sure to have a complete medical evaluation completed by your doctor, particularly if heart disease runs in your family. Eat a varied diet that includes fruits, vegetables, fish, and healthy oils. Maintain a regular exercise program, and try to keep your weight within a healthy range (your doctor can help you with this as well). Additionally, make an effort to keep your stress levels at a healthy level. When you take care of your health, you can significantly reduce your chances of suffering a heart attack or other coronary disease.

How long will it take for my grandmother to recover from a heart attack that has left her with fluids in lungs
Filed Under heart attacks | Comments Off
Uknown asked:
My grandmother, who is at the age of 75 suffered from a heart attack on Monday. This is the 6th day that she has been in the CCU. Her health is improving, but she has developed an edema in her lungs and she now has a breathing tube through her mouth as well as a ventilator. The doctors are not saying much, but they think the heart attack was caused by atherosclerosis. She has a bit of hypertension and high blood sugar, but she takes all her medication. The doctors have put her on insulin as well to monitor it. A stent has been inserted because of the blocked artery. Does anybody know if she will fully recover or if she will have to live with a ventilator her whole life? This is the 6th day in the CCU so how much longer will it take before they take out her tube? Will the fluid in the lungs come back in the future? And my last question; Will she live through this horrible ordeal?

Today, the doctor said that her x-ray is a little more foggier than yesterday, meaning that the fluid has come back.

I don’t think its a racist question at all, I think its a legit question. I am sure that when he wins a statistical study will be done on this.
