A poem by Julia Parmer “This Is Our Moment” This is our moment, 6 weeks in the making. Days wasted and red-eyed nights in rehearsal, practicing the motion of my broom, praying to whoever’s listening to succeed in sweeping you of your feet. I’ve been inconsistent in my days but who hasn’t? It’s like a drought of perfect sun, when subtle winds begin to swirl and gust, when clouds shed tears and cobwebs rust. Change is inevitable. But with every thought read, every hint of vulnerability, every lingering question… I start to think crazy things. Crazy as they are, I’m amazed at the beauty of these sentiments. I find myself at ease, imagining pretty scenes, dreaming surreal fantasies. And my heart flutters through a never ending field of blossoms. Yellow tulips for hopeless love. Often, I purposely forget the sad romantic lyrics but there’s just one thing that sticks out in my sanity — that with all this change going on, maybe there is something that could remain the same and keep me looking ahead of me. That thing is change itself - but parallel to my being. We will never stay exactly the way that will have us reminiscing the moments to come. My hope is that with every winding road, every sudden bend, every changing lane and every dead end — I’ll look to my left and wave as you drive by smiling in the same ultimate direction.
